Labour Party Chairman, Julius Abure, Cleared of Allegations

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party (LP) has confirmed that its National Chairman, Julius Abure, has been cleared of forgery and conspiracy allegations.

A forensic examination and a police investigation both found no evidence of wrongdoing.

This clarification comes after a press conference by Prof. Theophilus Ndubaku of the NLC Political Commission and Prince Dandy Rowland of the Nigerian Corruption Watch, who questioned why Abure had not been prosecuted despite previous accusations.

The controversy began when a caretaker committee led by Senator Nanedi Usman pushed for legal action against Abure and other party officials, alleging perjury, forgery, and conspiracy.

However, Abayomi Arabambi, the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, dismissed these claims, stating that both the forensic report and the police investigation proved Abure’s innocence.

Arabambi also pointed out that the case had already been resolved by the Court of Appeal in March 2023, which ruled in Abure’s favour.

He stated that only the Supreme Court could overturn that decision.

He criticized those calling for Abure’s prosecution, arguing that their demands contradicted the Nigerian Constitution and the rule of law.

He also warned that any further attempts to damage the reputation of the Labour Party leadership would not be tolerated.
