Lawmakers suspended for plotting to impeach State House of Assembly speaker
The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four of its members for three months after they were accused of trying to remove the Speaker, Hyacinth Dajoh, from office.
The lawmakers suspended on Friday during plenary are Alfred Berger of Makurdi North, Cyril Ekong of Oju 2, Abu Umoru of Apa, and Shimawua Terna of Kyan.
Following the suspensions, the House reorganized some leadership roles. Kennedy Angbo was appointed Deputy Majority Leader, Douglas Akya became Deputy Chief Whip, and Elias Audu was named the new spokesman of the House.
In another development, the House began screening five nominees for commissioner positions.
Two of the nominees, Ogwu Odeh and Imojime Tiza, will be considered at a later session.
The action by the Assembly comes amid growing tension over internal leadership struggles and reflects ongoing efforts to stabilize House operations.
