A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, his wife, and his son in an ongoing N8.7 billion money laundering case.
Dockaysworld can confirm that Justice Emeka Nwite ruled on Wednesday that each defendant should be released on a N500 million bail bond, bringing the total bail to N1.5 billion.
The court ordered that each of them must provide two sureties in the same amount, who must own landed property in areas such as Maitama, Asokoro, or Gwarimpa in the Federal Capital Territory.
Justice Nwite said the EFCC failed to provide strong evidence that the defendants would jump bail or interfere with witnesses.
The judge also directed the defendants to submit their international passports and barred them from travelling outside Nigeria without court approval.
Until all bail conditions are met, Malami, his wife Bashir Asabe, and son Abdulaziz will remain at the Kuje Correctional Facility.
The trio are facing a 16-count charge filed by the EFCC, alleging money laundering and unlawful acquisition of properties worth hundreds of millions of naira.
