Man Utd 12 points behind Liverpool after worst start to a league season in 30 years

You can’t win the Premier League title in
September, but you almost certainly lose

Liverpool have kicked off their title challenge
with maximum points from their opening
seven games of the season to sit top of the
table on 21 points.

In contrast, Manchester United’s season could well be over even before it began.

Since the opening day victory against Chelsea, United have picked up just one more win, drawing three times and losing twice – the latest setback a 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal after leading at half-time.

opener, and the result leaves United 10th in
the table and trailing Liverpool by 12 points
after just seven games.

According to Opta, United’s total of nine
points from their opening seven league games is their lowest at this stage of a top-flight campaign since 1989-90.

With Leicester City and even West Ham
making an early play for Champions League
qualification, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will
have to improve considerably if they want to
finish in the top four.
