Military dictator: Buhari reacts to Punch newspapers statement

President Muhammadu Buhari has in a statement reacted to the change in his tittle by punch newspaper regarding him henceforth as a military dictator till further notice.

Recall that the media house had earlier explained that their reasons for labeling the president a ‘dictator‘ is simply because of the current issues plaguing the country including the disrespect for the Judiciary evidenced by the DSS’s treatment of Omyele Sowore.

Reacting to the change in title by Punch NG, the media adviser to the president, Femi Adesina via a tweet stated that changing the tittle of the president isn’t out of order, adding that president Buhari earned the rank however.

His statement reads :

“If you decide to call him Major General, he wasn’t dashed the rank, he earned it. So, you are not completely out of order.

“The fact that you can do so is even another testimony to press freedom in Nigeria.

“All over the world, just as in our country, a large number of retired military officers are now democrats. It does not make those who did not pass through military service better than them.

“Rather than being pejorative, addressing President Buhari by his military rank is another testimony to free speech and freedom of the press, which this administration (or regime, if anyone prefers: it is a matter of semantics) has pledged to uphold and preserve
