Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has clarified the reason behind his visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta on Monday, describing it as a mere courtesy visit with no political undertones.
Atiku, who served as Obasanjo’s deputy from 1999 to 2007, arrived at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) at 12:36 p.m., accompanied by prominent political figures, including former governors Liyel Imoke (Cross River) and Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), as well as Senator Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central).
They were received by Oyewole Fasawe, a close ally of the former president.
After a 95-minute closed-door meeting, Atiku emerged at 2:11 p.m and briefly addressed journalists.
Pressed for details, he maintained that the visit was purely a social call and declined to comment on political matters.
“It’s just a courtesy visit, please. I am not going to talk about politics,” he stated.
