Mother and daughter narrowly escape death while trying to rescue their goat from tiger with stick

Senior Reporter

A young Indian woman and her mother have narrowly escaped death after they tried to fight off a tiger which attacked their goat.

The young lady Meshram, 23, said when she heard the goat scream she ran out of her house in western Maharashtra state then picked up a stick and hit the tiger, which then attacked her.

Then her mother pulled her into the house sustaining injuries in the process.

They both sustained only minor injuries and have now been discharged from hospital.

But the poor goat did not survive the attack.

Ms Meshram took a selfie soon after the attack, which happened last week but it just surfaced online.

The doctor who treated her hailed her for the courage she summoned in fighting off the tiger, but said she was lucky not to have been killed by the animal.

Ms Meshram suffered injuries to her head, waist, legs and hands, but they were only superficial and she has recovered.

Her mother was struck by the tiger near her eye, as she pulled her daughter to safety, but her wounds are healing well too.
