There were multiple casualties as several students suffered injuries yesterday when suspected cultists invaded 2 schools in Edo state wielding knives and cutlasses.
The schools attacked were Oba Akenzua Secondary School and Ihogbe College reports Daily Trust.
Students and teachers alike had scramble to find safety during the incident. The cult groups had clashed when one group pelted the other with stones.
The scene was said to have been littered with security personnel after the incident.
Two of the suspected cultists arrested by the police were seen crying, claiming to be innocent.
The state’s Commissioner for Education, Emmanuel Agbale, said no student was killed in the incident.
When contacted, the spokesman of the state police command, Chidi Nwanbuzor, confirmed the incident, saying two students were injured.
“Yes, there was a cult fight between two different cult groups and the fight took place in Akenzua Secondary School premises where two students were injured with machetes by the cultists.
“It was reported that one of the cultists was beaten by a student of Akenzua secondary school during a fight, as a result, members of his cult invaded the school (Akenzua) with cutlasses and started fighting the school,” he said.
He said the situation had been brought under control and that two of the cultists had been arrested.
