Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has accused the Nigeria Police of being biased in how it handled petitions she filed against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
In a letter dated May 19, 2025, sent to the Attorney General of the Federation and signed by her lawyer, Dr. Ehiogie West-Idahosa (SAN), Natasha claimed the police ignored her petitions while acting quickly on a counter-petition filed against her.
According to the letter, Natasha had submitted several petitions between March and April 2025.
These included complaints about threats to her life, the sudden withdrawal of her police security, and an alleged assassination plot involving both Akpabio and Bello.
Although the police acknowledged receipt of these petitions, Natasha’s legal team says no real investigation was carried out no witnesses were interviewed, and no evidence was collected.
In contrast, when Senator Akpabio filed a counter-petition on April 3 accusing Natasha of making false claims and inciting the public, the police acted swiftly.
She was invited for questioning and restated her previous claims, even providing witnesses.
But her team says those statements and witnesses were ignored, and the police concluded their investigation into Akpabio’s petition without considering her evidence.
Natasha believes the delay in acting on her petitions is due to the political influence of the people involved and calls the police’s conduct discriminatory and unjust.
She has urged the Attorney General to step in and request the case files from the police under the powers granted by Section 105(3) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015, so the matter can be reviewed properly.
