Natasha’s Lawyers Breaks Silence On New Evidence Ahead of Defamation Trial

The legal team of suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, says it is ready to defend her with solid facts and legal arguments in court.

This comes after the Federal Government formally served her with a lawsuit over comments she made on national television.

The lawsuit, filed on May 16, 2025, accuses the senator of making damaging statements during a live interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on April 3.

The Federal Government claims her remarks were defamatory and aimed at harming the reputation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The case, marked CR/297/25, was filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, citing Section 391 of the Penal Code.

Key witnesses expected to testify include Akpabio himself, former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, Sandra Duru, and two police investigators.

On May 23, Natasha’s lawyers confirmed receiving the court documents and stated they would defend her with all available facts and legal provisions.

The head of her legal team, Dr. Ehiogie West-Idahosa (SAN), said they accepted the court summons on her behalf through a letter of authority.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended from the Senate on March 6 following a dispute over seating arrangements, which she described as an unlawful move to silence her.

She also accused Senate President Akpabio of trying to cover up sexual harassment allegations she made against him.

In response, Akpabio petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, asking that Natasha be investigated and prosecuted for defamation, false accusations, and inciting public unrest.

Former governor Yahaya Bello also accused her of falsely claiming he was plotting to kill her on Akpabio’s orders.
