Niger State governor sacks all commissioners

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has sacked all commissioners and directed Permanent Secretaries to take charge of ministries until new commissioners are appointed.

Bago, however, retained the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, and other principal officers in his office.

The decision was taken on Monday during the weekly State Executive Council meeting in Minna.

The governor asked the outgoing commissioners to hand over official duties to the top civil servants in their respective ministries.

Bago explained that a new cabinet will be formed within the next one or two weeks.

According to him, he had assessed the performance of members of the dissolved cabinet, noting that while some delivered on their responsibilities, others did not meet expectations.

The governor also cautioned the former commissioners against lobbying for positions, stressing that appointments into the new cabinet will be based on his decision.
