The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has explained that its C-130 aircraft landed in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, on December 8, 2025, as a precaution after experiencing a technical problem.
The military said the landing followed proper international procedures and did not involve any violation of airspace.
NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, stated that the aircraft was on a ferry mission to Portugal when the crew noticed a technical issue shortly after departing Lagos.
The plane made a precautionary landing at the nearest airport to ensure safety, following standard aviation protocols.
This clarification comes after the Confederation of Sahel States, which includes Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, reported that the aircraft had entered their airspace without the required clearance.
Initial reports suggested that 11 Nigerian military personnel, including two crew members and nine passengers, had been detained and the aircraft seized.
The NAF confirmed that all personnel are safe and were treated well by the authorities in Burkina Faso.
Efforts are ongoing to continue the mission and secure the aircraft’s departure.
The Air Force reaffirmed its commitment to following proper operational procedures and maintaining safety in all missions.
