Nigeria confirms first coronavirus case in Lagos

The Federal Republic of Nigeria has announced the first confirmed case of deadly coronavirus in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire stated on twitter;

“The case is an Italian citizen who works in Nigeria and returned from Milan, Italy to Lagos, Nigeria on the 25th of February 2020,”

“The patient is clinically stable, with no serious symptoms, and is being managed at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.”

Prior to the just realized case in Nigeria, only two cases had surfaced across all of Africa, which were in Egypt and in Algeria and this tally had puzzled health scientists, due to the Africa’s close ties with China economically.

Report of the deadly disease in the country comes a while after the NCDC had confirmed all suspected cases as tested negative.

The World Health Organizations (WHO) had earlier warned of the poor state of African health facilities and systems stating that they are ill-equipped to respond to the deadly Coronavirus outbreak should cases begin to proliferate on the continent.

Osagie Ehanire also confirmed by releasing a statement which explained the Coronavirus and also stated preventive measures to be taken.
