Nigeria more divided today than during civil war – Obasanjo

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has said that the country is now more divided than during Nigeria’s civil war that lasted for 3 years between 1967 and 1970.

He said this when he spoke at the 2019 annual retreat/conference organised by the Association of Chief Audit Executives of Banks in Nigeria (ACAEBIN) which held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital yesterday March 21st.

He said;

“When we look at this country today, even during the civil war, we were not as divided as we are today. Today, we are in danger if we don’t take partnership seriously. Partnership within our people and partnership within Africa and the rest of the world”.

The Ex-President also admonished leaders to improve their management skills as the population was increasing alarmingly and needed stable minds at the head of Government.

He reasoned that with effective leadership, there would be reduced illiteracy and overall increased development.

Obasanjo is known for being vocal against the current administration for which he has expressed his displeasure multiple times.

Prior to the 2019 Presidential elections, he had condemned the incumbent, President Buhari in an in-depth letter which prompted the presidency to reply in kind.
