Nigerian Governor Orders ‘Immediate’ Sack of Commissioners, Special Advisers


Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has ordered the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council, removing several Commissioners and Special Advisers from office.

Dockaysworld reports that the directive was announced late Sunday by Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro.

He instructed all affected officials to hand over to their respective Permanent Secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their ministries, departments, and agencies.

While thanking the outgoing appointees for their service, Governor Oyebanji extended best wishes for their future endeavours.

However, the shake-up does not affect certain key cabinet members, including the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice; Commissioners for Health and Human Services, Agriculture and Food Security, Education, Works, and Trade, Investment, Industry and Cooperatives; as well as the Special Advisers on Special Education and Social Inclusion, and on Lands, Survey and e-GIS.

All Directors General who sit on the State Executive Council will also retain their positions, including the heads of the Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD), the Sustainable Development Goals and Project Monitoring office, and the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).

Governor Oyebanji, who is expected to seek reelection in 2026, did not state the reason for the changes in his cabinet.
