Nigerian minister resigns
Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has stepped down from his role after informing President Bola Tinubu that he can no longer continue due to health reasons.
In his letter dated December 1, he explained that his condition required him to leave the position without delay.
President Tinubu has accepted his decision and expressed appreciation for his work while in office.
The President is expected to send the name of a new minister to the Senate later in the week and former Chief of Defence staff, Christopher Musa is likely to be appointed as the replacement.
Badaru, who is 63 years old, previously served as Jigawa State governor for two terms between 2015 and 2023.
He joined the Federal Executive Council on August 21, 2023.
His exit comes at a time when the President has declared a national security emergency, with more details expected to be shared soon.
