No more vagabonds in PDP – Makinde knocks Wike

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has dismissed comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, describing him as a “vagabond” with no standing to interfere in the state’s party affairs.

Wike had, on Monday, declared interest in Oyo PDP politics while speaking ahead of a planned convention of his faction scheduled for March 28, saying he would closely monitor political activities in the state.

Responding on Tuesday at a public event in Oyo State, Makinde said the PDP in the state would not be distracted by external interference, insisting that those he described as “vagabonds” no longer have a place in the party.

He referenced the expulsion of key figures from the party in November 2025, during his own faction’s national convention.

“In Yorubaland, we say if you see a peaceful compound, the vagabond in that house has not grown up,” Makinde said, adding that such elements had already been expelled from the PDP.

Makinde also spoke on his previous political alignment with Wike, admitting that he had since had a change of heart after what he described as an initial dalliance with the former Rivers State governor, saying he was now “born again.”

The governor questioned Wike’s record in Rivers State, asking what he had done for the PDP there to justify his interest in Oyo State party affairs.

Recall that Makinde was part of the G-5 governors, alongside Wike, who worked against the PDP’s interests during the 2023 general elections, a move widely seen as contributing to the party’s defeat and its weakened position since then.
