Nollywood actor arrested over involvement in coup plot to overthrow Tinubu

Nollywood filmmaker and actor Stanley Amandi has been arrested over his alleged involvement in a coup plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to Premium Times, he was reportedly hired by the alleged coupists to act as a propagandist in the scheme, which security officials say involved plans to violently seize power.

Amandi, a director and former chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Enugu State chapter, was taken into custody in September 2025 but his alleged role had been kept under wraps until now.

The plot was allegedly spearheaded by military officers who, according to investigators, marked top government officials for assassination.

Government sources familiar with the investigation said those listed as targets included President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas.

Recall Dockaysworld reported that the Nigerian military had concluded investigations into the alleged coup plot after detaining several officers across different ranks.

The military arraigned the officers before appropriate judicial panels in line with existing laws.
