NYSC scheme to undergo restructuring, Minister reveals


The Minister of Youth Development, Dr Jamila Ibrahim has revealed that the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, is set to undergo a major review to restructure and reform the scheme.

She outlined the Federal Governmen’s plans at the opening ceremony of the maiden meeting of NYSC management with heads of corps-producing institutions in Nigeria on Monday.

The event which held at the National Judicial Institute in Abuja saw the minister disclose that up to 10 million naira would be disbursed to about 5000 corps members with entrepreneurial ventures.

She explained,

“Permit me to inform us very briefly on what is to come regarding NYSC reforms. I’m pleased to announce that I will be inaugurating a team to undertake the review, restructuring and reforms of the NYSC. The first of these reforms will be centred on reviewing participants with an entrepreneurship mindset and making skills development a core of the programme.”

The minister spoke about transforming the scheme to a self sustaining and revenue generating one.

In other news the minister of interior Bunmi Tunji-Ojo has expressed plans to review the visa policy of the country to attract more foreigners.
