Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has called on his opponent in the last governorship election, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, to accept the recent Court of Appeal ruling like a true sportsman.
The court upheld Okpebholo’s election victory on Thursday, confirming the decision of the election tribunal and rejecting the challenge brought by Ighodalo.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Ituah, Governor Okpebholo described the judgment as a reflection of the will of the people and praised the judiciary for remaining a reliable pillar of justice.
He said the court’s decision is not just a win for the All Progressives Congress but also a step forward for democracy and the rule of law in Edo State.
Okpebholo urged Ighodalo and other opposition members to respect the outcome and stop the legal battles, as they only cause distractions from important work that needs to be done for the people.
He reminded everyone that he has always extended a hand of peace, regardless of political differences, and spoke on the importance of unity for the development of the state.
The governor also reassured Edo residents of his continued commitment to their welfare through improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic growth.
He encouraged citizens to remain peaceful and law-abiding, promising that his administration would continue working tirelessly for the progress of the state.
