Manchester United are in talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to take temporary charge for the rest of the campaign.
The Norwegian scored 128 goals during 10 seasons with the Red Devils as a player before hanging up his boots.
Solskjaer is currently in charge of Molde in his own country but United chiefs have made contact with the 45-year-old over their vacancy.
Talks where ongoing between Leonardo Jardim and Utd but no breakthrough was made.
United want an experienced candidate to hold the fort for the rest of the season before making a permanent appointment
in the summer.
Solskjaer had an ill-fated spell in charge of Cardiff City, winning just nine of his 30 games in the hotseat.

United are sixth in the league table, 19 points adrift of bitter rivals Liverpool, whose 3-1 win over Mourinho’s men on Sunday turned out to be his last match in charge.
The Portuguese joined United in May 2016 and guided them to success in the Community Shield, League Cup and Europa
League in his first season.
