Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he’d rather be a striker short than have Romelu Lukaku at Manchester United.

The Red Devils sold the Belgium forward in the summer transfer window, with Inter Milan paying £74million for his services.

Solskjaer opted against replacing Lukaku, putting his trust in Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial this season.

“I can say [I am a striker short], but that was the decision that I made and I made it happily,” Solskjaer told Reporters.

“When you have players, [they may have] great potential, but Romelu’s head was not here for us working forward as a group.

“I don’t want to speak too much about other players. I have got lots of respects for Romelu but his time was up here.

But both strikers have missed games through injury this campaign, and United have looked short up top.

Solskjaer has been criticised as a result, but the Norwegian insists he’s happy with his decision to sell Lukaku as it was time for the Belgian to leave.
