The suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, has resigned from his post, a senior lawyer in his legal team confirmed on Friday.
“I have just spoken with him. He confirmed to me that he resigned voluntarily yesterday,” the senior advocate who said he did not have Onnoghen’s authorisation to speak on the issue said.
Onnoghen was said to have sent his letter of resignation to the President on Thursday after the National Judicial Council concluded its investigation into allegations of misconduct.
There has not been an official confirmation of his resignation his spokesperson, Mr. Awassam Bassey, who has yet to answer calls.
Recall, President Muhammdu Buhari had suspended Walter Onnoghen months ago while his trial at the CCT was still ongoing. He had sworn in Mohammed Tanko as the acting CJN.
