PDP announces zones for key national positions

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has released its new zoning arrangement ahead of the November 16, 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to the arrangement approved by the party’s leadership, the position of National Chairman has been zoned to the North-west, while the South-west will produce the National Secretary.

According to ThisDay, this decision follows a series of meetings among governors elected on the PDP platform, who appear to have regained firm control of the party’s structure ahead of the convention.

The zoning move effectively rules out former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, who had been considered for the chairmanship role under earlier proposals to retain the position in the North-central.

The new structure instead allocates the office of Deputy National Chairman to the North-central zone.

Within the North-west, influential names such as former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau and former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi are reportedly being considered for the top seat.

The National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) has also extended deadlines for submission of nomination forms and the screening of aspirants to allow more time for proper coordination.

New dates will be announced soon.
