Nigerian musician Peruzzi has responded sharply after being dragged into colleague Burna Boy’s viral claim that he writes all his songs without help from songwriters.
It began when @hypetribeng shared a clip from Burna Boy’s live stream with Plaqueboymax with the caption, “Burna Boy says he doesn’t use songwriters… People are supposed to hear your music and have an idea of who you are in a personal way.”
The statement drew backlash, with X user @Derahback responding, “Peruzzi wrote Pull Up for him. Yonda wrote songs for him. Ceza Milli wrote songs for him. Why does he feel the need to lie just to please the international audience?”
Peruzzi didn’t hold back, replying, “Were you there? No! So shut the fck up btch.” He later followed up in another post, writing, “Done with being a tool for your online battles & wars. Sleep good or don’t, I’m on vacation. It’s all love, I’m a man now.”
The exchange deepened after the user posted an old video where Peruzzi himself once hinted at writing for Burna Boy, reigniting the long-standing debate about ghostwriting and authenticity in Nigerian music.
While Burna Boy maintains that he writes all his songs, many fans have pointed out that other top Afrobeats stars, including Davido, have been more open about working with songwriters, showing a growing divide in how artists view creative collaboration.
