Former Anambra governor, Peter Obi has declared that he will run for president again in 2027 under the Labour Party.
He made this known during a recent interaction with a group of young supporters, which was recorded in a video shared on the Labour Party’s WhatsApp platform.
The former governor of Anambra State spoke about the problems affecting both the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party.
He said these issues are not just internal but are being stirred up by the current government.
Obi pointed to his past experience during the administration of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, explaining that political interference in party affairs is not new, but things were handled differently back then.
When asked if he would remain in the Labour Party for the next election, he responded without hesitation, saying that he is still a member of the party and will continue with it.
He told the young supporters not to worry about his silence on the party crisis, assuring them that he is fully aware of the situation.
Obi said that the problems facing opposition parties are being caused on purpose to keep them weak.
He shared that, if elected, he would work to correct this by making sure political parties can operate freely.
According to him, a strong opposition is necessary for any political system to work properly.
He also encouraged Nigerians to take responsibility for their votes, saying it is not enough to rely on party agents.
He said voters must make sure their votes count by staying involved and alert during elections.
In his message to the youth and other citizens, Obi urged them not to lose hope.
He said that real change is often met with resistance, especially by those who have benefited from the way things are.
Still, he believes that change is possible if people stay determined.
Obi added that he supports the idea of setting an age limit for those who want to run for public office.
He revealed that he will be 65 years old by the time the next election takes place and does not see himself contesting in his seventies.
