Oseloka Obi, son of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, has dismissed the viral photos linking him to British-Nigerian gay man Kent Okwesa, describing them as “gossip and falsehood.”
In a statement released in both audio and written form, Oseloka said he had refrained from responding to online vitriol but felt compelled to set the record straight.
According to him, political opponents of his father often seize “ordinary photos” of him with friends and colleagues and twist them into false narratives.
“These are not revelations, they are simply misrepresentations, fictions spun from pictures,” he stated.
Oseloka, who is an actor and writer, stressed that unlike many children of Nigerian politicians, he had never relied on nepotism and had instead chosen a career in theatre and filmmaking.
He noted that his roles in the creative industry are often being misused to smear his father.
He further urged Nigerians to focus on the country’s pressing issues such as insecurity, a struggling economy, and failing infrastructure rather than idle gossip about his private life.
“My father has my vote, not because he is my father, but because he is the right man for the job. If others wish to go low, invent scandals or attack me to wound him, they are free to do so. But we will go high, and continue to focus on the future of Nigeria,” Oseloka declared.
