Pilot crashes plane into party to kill wife(photos)

Charl Viljoen, a South African pilot, has died after crashing a small plane into a Botswana clubhouse in a deliberate bid to kill his wife, who was attending a baby shower there.

The man, said to be a staff of Kalahari Air Services, had first shown up uninvited at the shower held at the Matsieng Aerodome near Mochudi, the club’s spokesman, Mark Mansfield, told The Citizen.

According to reports, Vilijoen had an argument with his wife while there and then proceeded to steal a KingAir 200 aircraft which he intentionally flew into the club.

A man told Eyewitness News that before the plane crashed, Viljoen had called his friend, who was at the venue. .

“He phoned his friend who was still at the party, and he wanted to know where his wife was,” the man said. “The guy then started shouting so that everybody could run away.”

Vilijoen then crashed the plane into the club which led to his death. He was however the only casualty as no one else was hurt though the Clubhouse sustained serious damage along with 13 vehicles parked there.
