Plane Reportedly Crashes


A small aircraft crashed on Sunday at Southend Airport, located east of London, causing a large fire and thick black smoke to rise from the scene.

The plane, identified as a 12-metre Beechcraft B200, went down shortly after takeoff.

Video footage showed the plane engulfed in flames.

Essex Police said they received a call just before 4:00 p.m. local time and are currently working with emergency services at the crash site.

They expect the emergency response to continue for several hours.

London Southend Airport confirmed that a serious incident took place and said it is cooperating with local authorities while more information is being gathered.

Southend-on-Sea, where the airport is located, lies about 65 kilometres from central London and is considered the sixth busiest airport in the London area.
