Police announce restriction of movement in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has directed that movement across the state will be restricted on Friday, August 30, during the Local Government Elections.

The announcement was made on Thursday in Port Harcourt, despite opposition from some elders in the state.

The restriction, which will run from midnight to 6 a.m., will cover both vehicles and pedestrians.

However, those on essential duties are exempted from the order.

The police explained that the decision is meant to maintain peace and order during the polls.

Security operatives will be stationed on land and waterways to protect voters, election officials, and materials.

Residents were urged to cooperate with security agencies, comply with the movement order, and report any unusual activities during the election.

The polls will see the election of chairpersons and councillors across all 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State.
