The Imo State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video showing several police officers in Owerri allegedly displaying cult insignia associated with the Vikings confraternity.
The video, which surfaced online earlier this week, drew outrage from social media users after it appeared to show uniformed officers wearing red berets and caps reportedly linked to the feared Vikings (DNKI) cult group. The post accused the officers of “openly disgracing the Nigerian Police Force” and being complicit in cult-related violence across the country.
According to the viral post, the officers were allegedly part of the same group often used “to kill rivals during cult clashes,” raising concerns about the infiltration of criminal cult networks within the police.
The poster also accused the Imo State Police Command of being “unresponsive” to cultism-related warnings, claiming that such indifference has allowed the menace to persist.
In response, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, in a statement dated October 17, 2025, condemned the conduct captured in the viral video as “unprofessional and unethical.” He ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into the matter.
“The CP strongly condemns the conduct as unethical and unbecoming of police officers,” the statement read. “He assures the public that the matter is being handled with utmost seriousness and that upon conclusion of investigations, the officers involved will face serious disciplinary measures in accordance with police regulations.”
The police command emphasized that the Force remains dedicated to upholding law and order across the state.
