The Lagos State Police Command has declared 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore wanted.
The activist was declared wanted for allegedly planning a protest aimed at causing public disorder and blocking key roads in the state.
Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, made this known on Monday during a press briefing at the Iyana-Oworo end of the Third Mainland Bridge.
He said security operatives were already tracing Sowore and his group, who were accused of coordinating activities that could disturb peace and obstruct movement in parts of Lagos.
According to him, intelligence reports revealed that Sowore and his team had planned to stage demonstrations at strategic locations, including the Third Mainland Bridge, Lekki Tollgate, and Freedom Park.
He described the move as illegal and capable of creating traffic chaos that could endanger lives and damage infrastructure.
The commissioner warned that anyone found attempting to block roads or disturb public order would be arrested and prosecuted.
He added that Sowore should surrender at any police station or face arrest wherever he might be found.
Jimoh disclosed that 13 people had already been arrested in connection with the planned protest, while Sowore reportedly fled before police intervention.
He said investigations were ongoing to identify others involved in the alleged plan and to uncover possible sponsors.
To prevent any disruption, police officers have been deployed across major routes and public areas, especially on key bridges and highways where temporary roadblocks and diversions have been set up.
Jimoh said the measures were meant to protect lives, maintain peace, and secure critical infrastructure.
He also cautioned that the Third Mainland Bridge was not designed to hold large crowds or stationary gatherings, warning that any protest on the bridge could pose structural risks.
