The Adamawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the suspected suicide of Nigerian Law School student Ayomiposi Ojajuni at the Yola Campus.
Initial accounts indicated that Ojajuni allegedly consumed a harmful substance, reported to be rat poison, after he was stopped from taking the Bar Final examination on Saturday, December 6.
Some reports said he had been barred because of unresolved queries and for failing to meet the 75 percent attendance required to sit for the exam.
In a statement signed by spokesperson Sulaiman Nguroje, the command confirmed the incident and announced that an investigation is underway.
“The Adamawa State Police Command confirms the report of an unfortunate incident involving a 27-year-old student of the Nigerian Law School, Yola Campus, identified as Ojajuni Ayo, an indigene of Ondo State,” the statement read.
Nguroje explained that the command received a report from the institution’s Chief Security Officer on Sunday.
“On the 07/12/2025, the Command received a report from the Chief Security Officer of the institution, that on 06/12/2025 at about 11:30 am, a student named Ojajuni Ayomiposi returned to the campus in a tricycle, visibly staggering, and jumped over the fence into the hostel premises.”
“Shortly after, a security guard went to check on him and found him vomiting and lying unconscious. He was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital where he was admitted and later confirmed dead while receiving treatment.”
According to the police, Ojajuni’s body has been deposited in the hospital mortuary for autopsy, and officers are continuing their investigation.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the incident to uncover the circumstances surrounding the student’s death,” Nguroje added.
