Senate President Godswill Akpabio declared on Friday that political parties will no longer matter in Akwa Ibom State by the time of the 2027 general elections.
He said this while addressing a crowd during his midterm empowerment event at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium.
According to him, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has lost its influence in the state, claiming its symbolic umbrella is now “torn” and unable to offer protection.
Akpabio, who represents Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, said that all political parties in the Ikot Ekpene zone have united in support of his Senate return, Governor Umo Eno’s re-election, and President Bola Tinubu.
He praised Governor Eno as a peaceful leader and a genuine man of God, contrasting him with others who only “profess God with their lips.”
During the event, Akpabio distributed various empowerment items to 1,690 people.
These included 30 minibuses, 67 tricycles, 50 cassava processing machines, 347 deep freezers, 247 generators, bags of rice, cash grants, and more.
He also expressed gratitude to his wife, Unoma Akpabio, for her consistent community support, noting that she continues to provide food and aid even in his absence.
After the empowerment program, Akpabio proceeded to commission several constituency projects.
He announced that a total of 68 projects were scheduled for commissioning between May 16 and May 17.
In his welcome speech, the chairman of Essien Udim Local Government praised Akpabio for his long-standing dedication to the people, dating back to his time as commissioner and governor.
