The Presidency has mocked Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi after his party lost his polling unit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s Anambra governorship election.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, took a swipe at Obi in a post on X referring to the former Anambra state Governor as “the pontificator.”
He wrote: “The pontificator Peter Obi loses his polling unit to APC, his candidate beaten in Anambra election.”
According to results reported by Premium Times, the APC candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, secured 73 votes at Polling Unit 019, Agulu Ward 11, Anaocha Local Government Area, to defeat Labour Party’s George Moghalu, who polled 57 votes. The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) came third with 38 votes.
Mr Obi, who cast his vote earlier in the day at the same polling unit, had actively campaigned for his party’s candidate in a state where he won over 95 per cent of the votes during the 2023 presidential election.
He had stated after casting his vote that he supported the Labour Party as that was his party but that all stakeholders in the election were his friends.
Meanwhile, as at the time of this report, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that over 95 per cent of results from Saturday’s Anambra governorship election have been uploaded to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
Independent checks have also revealed similar level of progress.
