The Presidency has mocked former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El‑Rufai, following his expulsion from the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Dockaysworld reports that President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, posted a cryptic message on X, appearing to mock the former governor.
The aide said, “Internally Displaced Again!”
The Social Democratic Party had on Monday announced El‑Rufai’s expulsion and imposed a 30-year ban on his participation in any of its activities.
The move was announced in a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Aiyenigba, who accused the former governor of impersonation, forgery, and anti-party conduct.
According to the statement, El‑Rufai was never officially registered at the ward level, a constitutional requirement for party membership.
“El-Rufai never registered at his ward as required by the party’s constitution, yet he publicly declared on social media that he had joined the party. He also took photographs with suspended party leaders to create the impression that he was a member,” Aiyenigba said.
The SDP further alleged that El‑Rufai forged a membership register in Kaduna, fraudulently listing himself as ‘number 001’ in the Unguwar Sarki Ward of Kaduna North Local Government Area. The party also accused him of forging documents and attempting to destabilize its structure through unconstitutional means.
Aiyenigba claimed that El‑Rufai had ties with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and had attempted to drag the SDP into an unapproved alliance with the party. “Having established that he openly declared for the ADC and continued to act against the principles of the SDP, the party had no option but to disassociate itself from him,” he stated.
The party confirmed it had notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant authorities of El‑Rufai’s status and warned him against identifying with its name, logo, or platform for the next three decades.
Recall that El‑Rufai had earlier in the year announced his resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
