Protest rocks Rivers government house ahead of Fubara’s return

Security operatives attached to the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), staged a protest on Wednesday at the Government House in Port Harcourt, demanding the payment of their outstanding entitlements.

The incident took place while protocol officers were preparing the administrator’s convoy for an urgent trip to Abuja.

Believing that Ibas was relocating permanently to the capital, the security personnel reacted angrily and attempted to stop his departure.

Eyewitnesses said the officers, who were seen chanting and expressing their grievances, vowed not to allow the administrator to leave without settling their dues.
Their outburst briefly disrupted activities within the Government House before senior security officials intervened to calm the situation.

The protesters were eventually persuaded to stand down after being assured that Ibas was only traveling to Abuja for a meeting and would return to Port Harcourt.

Videos of the demonstration later surfaced on social media, drawing attention to the dispute.

As of press time, there has been no official statement from the Rivers State Government on the matter.

The administrator’s convoy remained at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, while Ibas attended an emergency engagement in Abuja.
