Retired Air Vice Marshal dies onboard London-Abuja flight

A British Airways flight from London to Abuja was forced to land in Barcelona after a retired Nigerian Air Vice Marshal died onboard.

The flight, which left Heathrow on Sunday night, was about halfway through its journey when the pilot declared a medical emergency around 1:30 a.m. and diverted to Spain.

The deceased, identified as Retired Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Osita Obierika, from Anambra State, was reportedly being flown home for treatment before he passed away midair. The situation also caused panic among passengers, with reports that a pregnant woman suffered a health scare.

British Airways later apologised to passengers for the delay and said a replacement aircraft would continue the trip to Abuja later in the day.
