Rivers Assembly drops impeachment proceedings against Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly has suspended impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.

The decision was taken on Thursday during the Assembly’s resumed sitting in Port Harcourt, the state capital, after a motion was moved to halt the process.

The impeachment move is the latest development in the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State, which began shortly after Fubara assumed office in 2023.

The crisis stemmed from a power struggle between the governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
