The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has announced that the previously withheld local government funds have now been released.

Ibas made this known during a meeting with local government administrators in Port Harcourt, where he assured that steps would be taken to ensure workers receive their salaries on time.

“I feel the pain of the workers,” he stated, acknowledging the financial struggles they have faced.

He also stated the importance of financial accountability, stating that public funds will be closely monitored to prevent mismanagement.

“You must take the lead in ensuring security within your domains,” he urged local government officials.

In response, the President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Clifford Paul, praised the Federal Government for appointing Ibas as Sole Administrator.

Paul, who also serves as the Administrator of Port Harcourt Local Government Area, described Ibas as competent and urged him to prioritise workers’ welfare, noting that local government employees are currently owed two months’ salaries.
