Tragedy struck the National Assembly on Thursday following the announcement of the death of lawmaker representing the South East Senatorial district of Rivers State, Senator Mpigi Barinada.
The news was disclosed by fellow legislator and chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, Akin Alabi.
He confirmed the sad development in a tribute post on his official X handle.
He wrote, “Good night my dear friend. Rest in Peace, Senator Mpigi Barinada. Sen Mpigi represented Rivers South East in the Senate”.
The Rivers Senator was the Chairman, Senate Committee on Works.
He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2011 and was reelected to a second term in 2016.
In 2019, he was elected as the senator representing Rivers South-East senatorial district on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Details of cause of death are yet to be released.
