Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has responded to President Bola Tinubu’s remarks mocking the current state of disunity among opposition parties in Nigeria.
During his Democracy Day speech on Thursday, President Tinubu made a pointed comment about the opposition, saying he was enjoying watching them in disarray.
He added that he wouldn’t advise them to get organised, nor would he assist in helping them do so.
Tinubu also denied claims that his government is trying to turn Nigeria into a one-party state by encouraging defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting to these statements, Saraki, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), admitted there are internal issues within his party.
Speaking to journalists after attending the Democracy Day event at the National Assembly, Saraki said it was time for opposition members to come together and resolve their differences.
He said Tinubu had made it clear that he wasn’t interested in helping the opposition get organised, so they would have to fix their problems themselves.
Saraki also acknowledged Tinubu’s statement about supporting a multi-party democracy and urged all opposition groups to take him at his word and focus on rebuilding.
