Scores of worshippers have reportedly been killed after a suicide bomber attacked Gambarou Jumu’at Mosque in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Survivors said the attacker infiltrated the mosque and detonated an explosive during the Maghrib congregational prayer, shortly after the first raka’at began. Several others were injured in the blast.
“There was an explosion during the prayer. Many worshippers died, while others sustained various injuries,” a witness said.
