A deadly clash has erupted in Ogheghe community in Benin City, Edo State, leaving several person dead following a clash between the local youths and northern traders popularly reffered to as ‘Aboki’ in the community.
Dockaysworld gathered that the violence reportedly started after a young man, identified as Chizzy Benz, was stabbed to death during an argument allegedly involving a motorcycle payment dispute, popularly known as a “balance and carry” issue.
The incident sparked outrage among community youths, who launched retaliatory attacks on hausa traders in the area.
Eyewitnesses said several shops and makeshift stalls were destroyed, with some residents fleeing for safety as the situation spiraled out of control.
Security operatives, including police and local vigilante groups, were later deployed to the area to restore order and prevent further bloodshed.
However, reports suggest sporadic violence continued into the night, with conflicting accounts about the number of casualties.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement, but community leaders are calling for calm and urging both sides to refrain from further attacks as investigations continue.
