Senate Passes Bill That Imposes Life Imprisonment on Child Molesters

The Nigerian Senate has passed a landmark bill prescribing life imprisonment for anyone found guilty of engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor.

The bill, passed on Tuesday, stipulates that offenders, whether male or female, will face life imprisonment without the option of a fine.

Lawmakers hailed the legislation as a decisive step toward protecting children and addressing the alarming rise in sexual abuse cases across the country.

The bill will now be transmitted to the House of Representatives for concurrence before being forwarded to the President for assent.
