State commissioner dies in road crash
The Gombe State Commissioner for Internal Security, retired Colonel Abdullahi Bello, and his police orderly, Sergeant Adamu Husaini, have died in a road accident along the Malam Sidi–Gombe road.
The incident occurred on Friday while the commissioner was returning from Maiduguri, Borno State, where he attended the North East Regional Consultation on the Development of a National Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) programme.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya confirmed the development in a statement released through the Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba-Misilli, on Saturday.
The governor described the loss as painful, noting that the late commissioner was known for his discipline, courage and dedication to duty.
Bello, a retired military officer, had served Gombe State with deep commitment, applying his experience and leadership skills to strengthen peace and security across the state.
He was also known for his active contributions to policy discussions on internal security, inter-agency coordination and community safety within the State Executive Council.
Governor Yahaya extended condolences to the bereaved families, the Balanga Local Government community and all who were affected by the tragedy.
He also expressed sympathy to the family of the late police orderly, describing both men as loyal officers who served the state and the nation faithfully until their last moments.
The commissioner’s driver, who sustained injuries in the crash, is said to be receiving treatment in the hospital.
The governor prayed for the recovery of the injured and for Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest.
