The Ebonyi State Government has approved a ₦150,000 Christmas bonus for all civil servants in the state ahead of the 2025 festive season.
Governor Francis Nwifuru announced the bonus during a church service held at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki.
The disclosure was later confirmed in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.
The governor explained that the payment is part of his administration’s effort to support workers and improve their welfare, even as the state faces financial pressure due to reduced revenue in recent months.
He assured civil servants that their wellbeing remains a priority of his government.
During the service, Nwifuru also addressed public discussions surrounding the Vincent Agwu Nwankwo Flyover project.
He dismissed claims that the construction work had been abandoned or delayed, stating that the project is progressing steadily despite its complexity.
According to the governor, the flyover is a major infrastructure development that requires careful execution.
He said the project will change the outlook of the state and improve its physical appearance when completed.
He also expressed concern over what he described as misleading reports and online commentary about the project.
Nwifuru said that the state is pursuing development projects not out of excess funds but out of a desire to leave a lasting mark through good governance and modern infrastructure.
He added that Ebonyi aims to earn wider recognition for progress and effective leadership.
Earlier in August, the state government approved an increase in the minimum wage for its workers by ₦20,000, bringing the new minimum salary to ₦90,000.
The adjustment took effect immediately and aligns with the administration’s development agenda.
At the national level, President Bola Tinubu signed a new minimum wage law in July 2024 after it was passed by the National Assembly.
The law raised the national minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000 following discussions involving labour unions, government officials, and the private sector.
However, several states are yet to fully adopt the new wage structure.
