The Ogun State Government has sealed the Sagamu residence and luxury hotel of former governor and serving senator Gbenga Daniel.
This further intensifies the growing political rivalry between him and Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The action was carried out on Monday by officials from the Sagamu Zonal Planning Office, who replaced earlier contravention and quit notices, served on Friday with sealing and demolition orders.
The officials reportedly arrived in government-branded vehicles, posted the new notices without alerting occupants, and left in a hurry.
Two days before the move, Governor Abiodun had dismissed suggestions that the enforcement was politically driven.
Both politicians are from Ogun East Senatorial District, with Mr Daniel currently representing the zone in the Senate.
The governor is believed to be preparing to contest for the same seat in 2027, which could put him in direct competition with Mr Daniel if the senator seeks re-election.
The political face-off has caused tension within the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State.
Party insiders claim the governor aims to unseat Mr Daniel from the party to secure the senatorial ticket.
The two leaders were once allies, with Mr Daniel supporting Mr Abiodun’s 2019 governorship bid, but their relationship has since deteriorated.
The appearance of a large campaign poster of Governor Abiodun’s 2027 senatorial bid directly opposite Mr Daniel’s residence has further fuelled speculation that the political battle for Ogun East has already begun.
