The Adamawa State House of Assembly is working on a plan to change the law that guides local government administration in the state.
The proposed change aims to increase the tenure of local government council chairmen from two years to three years.
This move began after the state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, sent a letter to the assembly asking for the repeal of the Local Government Administration, System and Establishment Law 2000.
The Speaker of the House, Bathiya Wesley, read the letter during plenary.
Following the reading, the lawmakers forwarded the proposal to the Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for further review.
Members of the committee, including Hon. Geoffrey Bulus from Leko-Koma and Hon. Bulus Kantomon from Shelleng, expressed their support for the proposed change and praised the steps taken so far.
The assembly is expected to continue its review before reaching a final decision on the matter.
