The University of Ibadan experienced shock as a strange sculpture scared students, workers and visitors after it was placed in front of the main entrance gate by unknown persons on Friday morning.
The image carved in human form had never been seen in front of the gate until the morning of February 14 and might not have been suspicious, except that it had pepper and tomatoes placed around it.
A senior staff member of the University stated that it was no new thing for members of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the institution to place fetish objects in strategic areas of the school when they embark on strike in a bid to scare people away.

The UI NASU chairman, Comrade Malachy Etim, while speaking confirmed the development and saying the union placed what he called “a harmless object” in front of the university gate.
He further stated that this only symbolises the unity of the union.
